S550 Strut Tower Clearancing

These step-by-step instructions show you how to open up the strut tower hole in an S550 chassis Mustang using a Vorshlag tool. We recommend a 2-3/4" hole saw, which allows full travel of our S550 camber plates while still leaving part of the vertical wall and the curve of the original tower opening. #AllTheCambers

  • The stock tower hole is about 1.8" across. The fix is to cut the tower opening larger.
  • First, put the car on a lift. Remove the front struts from the car. Support the brakes!
  • Bolt the strut tower cutting fixture into the tower, on place of the stock top mount or camber plate.
  • From underneath this is what you should see.
  • The alignment hole (in production this will be a 1" tall alignment pin with a hole in it) should be in the dead center of the stock strut tower opening.
  • Showing the relative size of a 2-3/4" hole saw next to the tower.
  • This is a 3" hole saw next to the stock tower. This still leaves a little curve on the raised portion.
  • Using the hole saw in the diameter you want (2-1/2", 2-3/4" or 3"), make sure it uses a 1/4" drill for the arbor. Align the 1/4" pin into the cutting fixture tool.
  • Touch the hole saw blades to the tower evenly and squarely.
  • Apply downward pressure and spin the drill to cut the hole
  • This cut should take less than a minute with a sharp hole saw.
