vorshlag  > Instructions > EVO wheel stud install
If you have an EVO or Subaru or one of countless other cars that use "press-in" wheel studs, this instruction gallery might be helpful. Watch was we install some longer wheel studs on our 2008 EVO X on the front axle.

vorshlag > After the car is up on jack stands and the wheels are off we remove the caliper and rotor. On the EVO X the flexible portion of the brake line is upstream from the caliper and you have to remove a clamp that holds it to the strut to allow it to flex.
vorshlag > Here the brake pads are removed, then the two main caliper bolts, then the rotor slides off - in that order.
vorshlag > With the caliper out of the way the wheel hub can be turned until each stud is in the opening where the caliper sits. Then you wack the crap out of the stud with a hammer. A couple of medium to hard hits should knock them out of the hub. Yes, this is the proper procedure, no matter how crude it looks.

You don't want to reinstall used wheel studs so the old ones go in the trash.
vorshlag > Once you push the splined portion of the sud past the wheel hub it will fall out - remove from the back and rotate until the next stud lines up with the caliper opening.
vorshlag > All 5 wheel studs have been removed from one wheel hub.
vorshlag > Get you new longer wheel studs ready. These 3" long studs were sourced from ARP (and they were expensive) and have the proper splined diameter and a "speed start" nose.
vorshlag > Install the new longer wheel stud from the back of the wheel hub. Notice that we've slipped a larger diameter nut over the wheel stud... this is important! Find a "spacer" of some sort to place over the stud. This was an M14 nut, which is larger than the M12-1.5 wheel stud.
vorshlag > Installation of press-in wheel studs requires an impact gun. And a good one at that.

Don't have one? You can't install long wheel studs.
vorshlag > Push in lightly from the back of the stud to help engage the splines on the wheel stud with the hole in the wheel hub. Install a sacrificial lug nut and start spinning it on with the pneumatic impact gun.

(you might go through 2 or 3 lug nuts during your install - the end gets a big mangled from the installaiton torque).
