vorshlag > These instructions can be used with any of our camber plates installed on BMWs. We are using an E36 AST Sportline 1 in this example.
vorshlag > If you would like to run a stock upper mount with the AST coilovers, use the orange upper spring perch, otherwise it is not needed. All Vorshlag camber plates are sold with new upper spring perches made for the strut shaft and spring size chosen by the customer.
vorshlag > This is the factory upper strut bearing. It includes the 3 strut tower studs, a semi-sealed single row axial bearing (for steering rotation), and a massive rubber bushing. Vorshlag upper spring perches include a much stronger double row sealed bearing. The Vorshlag camber plate includes a spherical bearing that replaces the rubber bushing plus a "bolt ring" that has the 3 strut tower studs.

vorshlag > For these instruction, we remove the tender spring to show the isntallation. If using a tender, you will need to lower the lower perch down to install the camber plate, or have someone help compress it as you install the plate. NOTE: The AST 4100/4200 struts are typically sold without a tender spring.
vorshlag > This begins the installation of a Vorshlag camber plate. This strut shaft shows the 14mm square shaft that is common on many struts.
vorshlag > Inspect the shoulder of the upper spool pieces pressed into the axial bearing on the spring perch - it should match the diameter and shoulder style (tapered or square) of the upper strut shaft. Install the spring perch. It should sit on the shoulder of the strut shaft. NOTE: If it does NOT sit snugly on the strut shaft, call Vorshlag immediately. You may not have the correct perch for your application. To ensure a rattle free fit, you must make sure these parts match and fit properly.
vorshlag > Install the Vorshlag camber plate onto the spring perch. The spherical bearing in the camber plate should fit snugly over the upper spool pieces pressed into the spring perch axial bearing (see prev picture).

E36 camber plates are now labeled "PSGR" for Passenger Side and "DRVR" for Driver's side. Find the engraving on the main plate under the "top ring". On E36s, the driver's side strut has a bracket with three holes, the passenger side only has two holes in the bracket that mounts the brake line and sensor.
vorshlag > Place the provided upper spool piece over the strut shaft. The original strut top nut will tighten down onto this the flat upper surface. EXCEPTION: Bilstein inverted struts with OEM style springs use a custom top nut and no upper spool piece.
