STEP 1: Install the Vorshlag Stock Style perch onto the strut. It should sit squarely on the shoulder of the strut. Once the camber plate is installed, you will be able to get more thread engagement with the top nut.

vorshlag > Bilstein Sport inverted strut shown at left, AST non-inverted strut shown at Right (similar to Koni and most other non-inverted struts). Note the substantially shorter upper shaft length on the Bilstein, especially the threaded portion.

vorshlag > This is the top of the Bilstein Sport Strut. The rubber boot is flexible and will collapse some in this installation. The perch may rub this boot. This is normal. In order to provide maximum thread engagement, the perch is as close as possible to the inverted strut.

vorshlag > STEP 1: Install the Vorshlag Stock Style perch onto the strut. It should sit squarely on the shoulder of the strut. Once the camber plate is installed, you will be able to get more thread engagement with the top nut.

vorshlag > STEP 2: Install the Vorshlag camber plate onto the spring perch. It should slide onto the yellow spool piece easily. NOTE: No portion of the threaded strut shaft sticks above the camber plate in this picture. Also, these pictures are shown with the strut not installed on the car. Obviously this is the step where you install the strut and camber plate onto the car and put the strut tower nuts and washers above the strut tower sheet metal.

vorshlag > Your kit should include Loctite 242 (or equivalent), the Vorshlag top nut, and a 6mm Allen wrench. Open the Loctite package and place a few drops on the threads of the top nut (shown on the right). Loctite should be placed on the bottom side of the nut's threads.

vorshlag > STEP 3: Put a few drops of Loctite onto the threads at the bottom of the top nut before installing.

vorshlag > STEP 4: Install the top nut by hand making sure that it threads easily onto the top of the strut. The top nut reaches into the spherical bearing and screws over the top threaded portion of the strut shaft.

vorshlag > To tighten the top nut you will need a 1" open end wrench or a Metric Adjustable Wrench (i.e. Crescent wrench!) and the provided 6mm "T Handle" Allen wrench tool.

vorshlag > STEP 5: The "T handle" Allen wrench should be placed in the hex drive on the top of the Bilstein strut shaft. Hold the T handle (counter-torque) while you tighten the top nut using the 1" wrench. This nut should be checked periodically. If you find it is loose, remove it and re-apply Loctite 242. If the car is on the ground (supported by the wheels), the top nut can be removed and reinstalled without compressing the spring.
